What Is a Dredge Pump?
A dredge pump is a heavy-duty slurry pump that moves sediment, sand, sludge, and other abrasive solids suspended in water through a pipeline. Unlike standard water pumps, dredge pumps are engineered for high-solids slurry — handling material concentrations of 40–70% solids by volume without the rapid wear that destroys conventional centrifugal pump impellers.
EDDY dredge pumps use a patented open-rotor design with no critical tolerances. The fluid to be pumped with flooded suction pumps is positioned above the pump. Flooded suction pumps typically require less priming effort because gravity assists in keeping the pump primed. Can dredge pumps handle rocks?
EDDY dredge pumps pass solids up to 12 inches in diameter through the pump without clogging. For very large rocks, excavator attachment dredges with cutter heads mechanically break material before it enters the pump. Slurry with consistent rock content above 4 inches should use an excavator dredge attachment with an agitator.
