Mining is critical to modern life, that’s why EDDY Pump supports the Move Mining video contest.
Students and individuals compete for a chance to win $5,000 for their concepts to express how important mining is for modern life. The Move Mining online video competition is sponsored by Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration.
Mining plays a vital role in modern life. Many times people forget that their home, cell phones, vehicles, energy, medical devices and many items they use daily are built with materials that begin at a mine.
A majority of the world’s population doesn’t understand the essential role that mining has in their daily lives; therefore, the perception of mining can sometimes be unfavorable or uninformed. The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME) is putting on a contest for individuals and teams will participate in the with the goal of implementing a change or “move” the perception of mining forward in the world.
Teams will submit a three-minute video and one-page abstract outlining their concept to Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME) and compete for a $5,000 cash prize. Finalists will be presenting their concepts before a panel of industry experts and a live audience during the 2018 SME Annual Conference & Expo in February.
A second contest is also introduced. New this year is Move Mining Next Gen, an online competition for K-12 participants. Teams will create 3-minute videos that share their ideas about where minerals are found and mined, how we use them, why mining is important and what careers are necessary to make the process happen. More details here.
The happy winners from early 2017 contest.
